The co-directors of the documentary “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” are facing backlash from former Nickelodeon host Marc Summers, who claims he was “ambushed” during filming. Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz have defended their actions, stating that they were clear with participants about the nature of the project.
Summers, known for hosting “Double Dare” on Nickelodeon from 1986 to 1993, alleged on “The Elvis Duran Show” that he was not informed about the true nature of the documentary before signing on. He claimed that the co-directors pulled a “bait and switch” on him, revealing shocking allegations against individuals like Dan Schneider and Drake Bell.
Despite initially walking away from the project, Summers was later told he would still be featured in the documentary, leading to further frustration. He accused the directors of being unethical and including footage of the moment he was ambushed on camera without his consent.
The documentary, which was released in March, explores the dark side of the children’s television industry and includes allegations of sexual abuse. A fifth bonus episode is set to be released on Sunday, April 7, on ID.
Summers emphasized that he never met the individuals mentioned in the documentary and felt misled by the directors. The controversy surrounding “Quiet on Set” continues to unfold as viewers await the latest episode.
