Rev. Lorenzo Sewell to Speak at RNC on Black Voters Gravitating Toward Trump
MILWAUKEE — The Rev. Lorenzo Sewell, set to deliver a speech to Republicans at the RNC on Thursday night, shared insights with Fox News Digital on why Black voters are increasingly supporting former President Trump, despite denials from Democrats.
Sewell highlighted the noticeable shift in Black voter support towards Trump, citing his personal observations at his church where he saw a diverse group of individuals, including rappers, preachers, teachers, and non-affiliated individuals, attending an event with President Trump.
Recent polls have shown a significant drop in support for Biden among Black voters in swing states like Michigan and Pennsylvania. Fox News polling indicated that Biden’s lead over Trump among Black voters has decreased from 64 points in July 2020 to 42 points today.
Sewell attributed Trump’s appeal to Black voters to his non-traditional approach and willingness to engage with communities that other Republicans may have overlooked. He praised Trump’s efforts, such as the Platinum Plan, which aimed to provide resources to Black entrepreneurs and churches.
The pastor, who grew up in a challenging environment, emphasized the importance of speaking up for marginalized and disenfranchised individuals in Michigan. He encouraged Black voters to research the history of Black Republicans and consider the contributions of leaders like Thomas Sowell and Frederick Douglass.
As Sewell prepares to address the RNC, he hopes to inspire Black voters to reconsider their political affiliations and recognize the historical ties between Black Americans and the Republican Party.
