Danny Dyer Opens Up About Major Panic Attack on Stage After Taking Drugs
Former EastEnders actor Danny Dyer has revealed a harrowing experience he had on stage in New York back in 2001. Dyer, who played a waiter in Harold Pinter’s Celebration, admitted to having a “major panic attack” after forgetting his lines following a night of drug-taking.
In a recent interview on Elizabeth Day’s How To Fail podcast, Dyer shared that he had never been to New York before and was “very excited” about the opportunity. However, he admitted to taking drugs while in the city, which ultimately led to his onstage mishap.
Dyer recalled freezing on stage and not knowing what to say, as his fellow actors looked on in horror. He managed to continue the scene only after someone shouted out his line to him, but the experience left him shaken.
The incident served as a wake-up call for Dyer, prompting him to rethink his drug-taking habits. He eventually sought help and went to rehab in South Africa in 2016, acknowledging that he needed to make a drastic change in his life.
Reflecting on his time in rehab, Dyer emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for one’s own recovery. He highlighted the need to break down one’s ego and connect with other addicts in order to truly address the underlying issues.
Dyer’s candid revelations shed light on the challenges he faced and the steps he took to overcome them, serving as a reminder of the importance of seeking help and making positive changes for one’s well-being.
