Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid Wins Conn Smythe Trophy Despite Game 7 Loss to Florida Panthers
Despite the Florida Panthers defeating the Edmonton Oilers in a thrilling Stanley Cup Final Game 7, Connor McDavid walked away with some NHL hardware. McDavid was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP after leading all players in points with 42, the fourth-best in NHL history. He also set a playoff record with 34 assists this postseason.
McDavid’s performance in the playoffs was nothing short of spectacular. He became the first player in league history to post back-to-back four-point games in Games 4 and 5 of the finals, helping the Oilers work back from a 3-0 deficit. Although he was held pointless in Games 6 and 7, McDavid’s efforts throughout the playoffs did not go unnoticed.
The Panthers’ goalie, Sergei Bobrovsky, also put on a stellar performance in Game 7 and throughout the playoffs. Despite some struggles in the past three games leading up to Game 7, Bobrovsky made some incredible saves against a desperate Oilers team in the third period to secure the Panthers’ victory.
While Bobrovsky’s play in the net was crucial for the Panthers, McDavid’s outstanding performance has put him in the running for the Hart Memorial Trophy as the overall league MVP this season. Despite not leaving Florida with his first career Stanley Cup, McDavid’s efforts were recognized with the highest regard.
It was a thrilling end to an incredible Stanley Cup Final, with both McDavid and Bobrovsky showcasing their talents on the ice. Fans can expect to see more from these two superstars in the seasons to come.
