Comedian and presenter Paddy McGuinness has uncovered a surprising connection to US President Joe Biden through his Irish ancestors, revealing a “real spiritual connection” to the country in the process.
McGuinness, known for his work on shows like Top Gear and A Question of Sport, delved into his family history on the BBC’s ancestry show Who Do You Think You Are? In a fascinating discovery, he learned that his great-great-grandparents lived on the same street in Mayo as President Biden’s ancestor.
The Bolton-born star expressed his excitement at learning more about his roots, admitting that he had previously felt “ignorant” about his Irish heritage. He also discovered his grandfather’s service in World War Two, including a “Spitfire connection.”
During his journey to the west coast of Ireland, McGuinness found out that his great-grandmother was born in Mayo to neighbors of President Biden’s ancestor. The connection to the President added an extra layer of significance to his ancestral exploration.
Reflecting on his experience, McGuinness shared his joy at feeling a “real spiritual connection” to his Irish ancestry. He described standing on a Mayo beach as a “romantic thought” and marveled at the surprises uncovered during his journey.
The highlight of his journey, however, was holding his granddad’s war medal, a moment that made him feel like he was holding a piece of history in his hand.
