The Colorado House of Prayer, a church group in Colorado, has made headlines by utilizing blockchain technology to purchase a $2.5 million chapel. Led by Pastor Blake Bush, the group tokenized the Old Stone Church, turning it into a digital asset to simplify the buying process.
The decision to use blockchain was reportedly inspired by a spiritual experience, with Pastor Bush claiming he heard the Lord instructing him to “tokenize the building.” To raise the necessary funds, the group created a digital currency called “Stone Coin,” which is backed by real estate and operates on the Polymesh private blockchain.
While the project has already raised half of its goal, the group is now seeking additional investors, including those outside of their religious community. This move has raised concerns about outsiders gaining control over the asset, but Pastor Bush remains optimistic, stating, “Let’s introduce you to Jesus.”
The Colorado House of Prayer’s innovative approach to purchasing the chapel demonstrates how modern technology can be used to achieve spiritual goals. In a similar vein, in June, Galaxy Digital and the co-founder of Animoca Brands tokenized a 1708 Stradivarius Violin, showcasing the growing intersection of faith and fintech.
