Netflix’s hit animated series, Arcane, has announced that its upcoming second season will be its final chapter. The show, inspired by the popular multiplayer online game League of Legends, has garnered critical acclaim and a massive fan following since its debut.

Showrunner Christian Linke, who also works for LoL developer Riot Games, revealed that ending the show after just two seasons was always the plan. Despite the success of the first season, Christian and his team wanted to tell a very specific story with a tailored ending in mind.

The show, which follows the story of sisters Vi and Jinx, has received praise for its striking animation and stellar voice performances by Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell. Arcane has won numerous awards, including an Emmy and multiple Annies, solidifying its place as one of Netflix’s highest-rated original shows.

While some fans were surprised by the announcement of the final season, Christian remains confident in the decision, stating that they have to follow their gut and tell the story as it was intended from the beginning.

Despite Riot Games facing challenges in recent years, including a lawsuit over sexual discrimination and layoffs, the Arcane project remains a small team of about 20 people. Christian acknowledges the difficulties in the industry but remains optimistic about the future of video game adaptations.

Fans can expect more shows based on League of Legends in the future, featuring additional characters from the game’s extensive roster. Christian hopes that the success of Arcane will inspire other creators to stay true to the source material and pave their own path in the industry.

As the final chapter of Arcane approaches, fans can look forward to the conclusion of the epic story of Vi and Jinx, as well as the legacy the show leaves behind in the world of video game adaptations.
