WWE signs Chilean wrestling star Stephanie Vaquer, set to join NXT roster
WWE made a major splash in the wrestling world on Wednesday by signing Chilean professional wrestler Stephanie Vaquer. Vaquer, who has held titles in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), is set to join the NXT roster and bring her impressive skills to the already talented lineup.
Vaquer, who was ranked No. 54 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Top 250 women’s wrestlers in 2023, bid farewell to her fans at her final CMLL show over the weekend. CMLL announced that she was being stripped of her titles as she departed for “personal reasons.”
Shawn Michaels, the WWE legend turned senior vice president of talent development creative, confirmed Vaquer’s signing with WWE, welcoming her to the family on Twitter.
Vaquer had attracted interest from both WWE and All Elite Wrestling in recent weeks. She even appeared at AEW’s Forbidden Door event, where she faced off against Mercedes Moné (Sasha Banks in WWE) for the AEW TBS Championship and NJPW Strongwoman’s Championship.
With Vaquer joining the NXT roster, she will be among a group of talented female wrestlers, including current champions Roxanne Perez and Kelani Jordan. The roster also features a host of other skilled wrestlers such as Adriana Rizzo, Gigi Dolan, and Meiko Satomura.
WWE’s recent partnership with TNA has also brought in talent like TNA Women’s Champion Jordynne Grace and Ash by Elegance (formerly Dana Brooke in WWE).
Fans can expect exciting matchups and fierce competition as Vaquer brings her unique style and experience to the WWE ring.
