A New Order gig scheduled to take place at Alexandra Head near Cardiff Bay Barrage has been cancelled on “health and safety grounds” following a weather warning issued for severe winds. The band, along with support acts like the Charlatans, were set to perform on Thursday evening, but Storm Lilian is expected to bring strong winds to the area on Friday morning.
In a statement posted on social media, the band expressed their disappointment at not being able to perform, emphasizing that the safety of their fans and crew is their top priority. Lead singer of the Charlatans, Tim Burgess, also expressed his disappointment over the cancellation, citing the safety of everyone involved in the event as the main reason for the decision.
Despite the cancellation, Burgess left a surprise for fans who had traveled for the gig, announcing that he had left £500 behind the bar at Tiny Rebel in Cardiff. The weather warning covers several areas in north Wales, and the Met Office has warned of gusts reaching 50 to 60mph.
Organizers of the event, The Bay Series, have apologized for any inconvenience caused and assured customers that they will automatically receive a refund. One disappointed fan, Dermot Owens, shared his disappointment at receiving the cancellation message as he arrived in Cardiff, but remained philosophical about the situation, noting that life is too short to dwell on such disappointments.
The cancellation of the New Order gig has left fans disappointed, but safety concerns and extreme weather conditions have taken precedence in this situation.
