Luxury vehicles lined the scenic stretch of Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday evening, blocking the view of the coast as deep-pocketed donors gathered for a fund-raising dinner in support of former President Donald J. Trump’s presidential campaign. The event, hosted by billionaire John Paulson at his mansion, raised over $50.5 million, according to the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee.
The lavish affair, attended by around 100 people including several billionaires, aimed to address the financial gap between the Trump campaign and President Biden’s campaign as they prepare for the upcoming general election. The reported total raised at the event is nearly double the amount raised by President Biden’s campaign at a recent celebrity-studded event in New York City.
Guests at the Trump fundraiser included familiar megadonors and Trump allies, such as Rebekah Mercer, Linda McMahon, and Robert Bigelow. Despite the high expectations for the event, not all donors who contributed were able to attend.
Under the shared fund-raising agreement, contributions will be distributed among various entities, including Mr. Trump’s campaign, his Save America PAC, the R.N.C., and state parties. The Trump campaign has been focusing on fundraising efforts to close the financial gap with Democrats, who have reported significant fundraising numbers in recent months.
The event, which was described as a less flashy affair compared to its Democratic counterpart, featured special guests like Senator Tim Scott, Gov. Doug Burgum, and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. With the money raised at the fundraiser, the Trump campaign aims to propel the former president to victory in the upcoming election.
Overall, the fundraiser was a display of wealth and support for the former president, with attendees mingling inside the luxurious mansion as their luxury vehicles lined the Palm Beach shoreline.
