Melissa Goldstein, a former magazine photo editor, has found a new passion in creating fine English porcelain ceramics inspired by her love for Scandinavian ceramics, 17th-century botanical illustrations, and Japanese woodblock prints. After moving to Brooklyn and rehabilitating her garden, Goldstein started her brand, MG by Hand, where she hand-makes everyday dinnerware decorated with floral motifs from her garden. Her latest collections, Poppy and Cherry, draw inspiration from Dutch Delftware and feature local flora like black irises, poppies, and quince.
Goldstein’s ceramics are fired in a gas kiln for 12 to 15 hours, resulting in beautifully crafted pieces that reflect her love for blooming trees and nature. Priced starting at $65, her ceramics are available in select shops and online at mgbyhand.com.
In a world where mass-produced items dominate the market, Goldstein’s handcrafted ceramics offer a unique and personal touch to everyday dining experiences. With her intricate designs and dedication to quality craftsmanship, Goldstein’s creations are sure to bring joy and beauty to any home.
