Legendary British blues musician John Mayall OBE, known for his influential band the Bluesbreakers, has passed away at the age of 90. Mayall, who helped spearhead a blues revival among white musicians in England, died at his home in California surrounded by his family.
The statement on his Instagram page announced his passing, stating that “health issues that forced John to end his epic touring career have finally led to peace for one of this world’s greatest road warriors.” Mayall’s impact on the music industry was profound, with his band the Bluesbreakers serving as a launching pad for stars like Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Mick Taylor.
Described as the “godfather of British blues,” Mayall’s legacy will live on through his music and the countless musicians he inspired and mentored throughout his career. He was made an OBE in 2005 and is survived by his six children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
