Renowned street artist Banksy has been making waves in London this week with his latest series of animal-themed artworks. The sixth piece, a silhouette of a cat on a distressed billboard in Cricklewood, was confirmed by Banksy himself on Instagram without any caption.
This new artwork follows a string of other animal-themed pieces that have popped up across the city in recent days. From pelicans above a fish and chip shop in Walthamstow to monkeys hanging from a bridge in Brick Lane, each piece has drawn crowds and sparked excitement among residents.
However, not all of Banksy’s creations have stayed in place for long. The stencil of a wolf on a satellite dish in Peckham was quickly removed from the building it was on top of, with a video showing two people carrying it away down the street. The Metropolitan Police have received reports of the dish being stolen, but so far, no arrests have been made.
The meaning behind Banksy’s animal-themed series remains a mystery, with the artist’s press team declining to comment on the possible significance of the artworks. For now, Londoners are left to marvel at these unique and thought-provoking creations scattered throughout the city.
