Thousands of motorcyclists are embarking on a journey from London to Cumbria to honor the late Hairy Biker Dave Myers. The TV chef, who passed away in February at the age of 66 after battling cancer, is being celebrated in a remembrance procession known as Dave Day.
With up to 20,000 bikers expected to join the cavalcade to Myers’ hometown of Barrow-in-Furness, the event has drawn participants from all over the world. Myers’ TV partner Si King described the ride as a celebration of their friendship and the positive spirit Myers always exuded.
The procession kicked off from London, with bikers donning Hawaiian shirts in honor of Myers’ signature style. The event will also raise funds for NSPCC Childline and The Institute of Cancer Research, with donations being split between the two charities.
As the bikers make their way north, stop-offs including at the National Motorcycle Museum are planned along the route. The celebrations will culminate in Barrow Town Hall with performances, stalls, and a service of remembrance.
Participants from all walks of life, including those who traveled from as far as Malaysia and France, are coming together to pay tribute to Myers. Local residents in Cumbria have also opened up their homes to accommodate riders in need of lodging.
The outpouring of support and camaraderie surrounding Dave Day is a testament to the impact Myers had on people’s lives. The event is not only a tribute to a beloved TV personality but also a celebration of friendship, positivity, and the power of community coming together in times of grief.
