The BBC has announced that Clive Myrie and Laura Kuenssberg will lead the network’s election night coverage, replacing former anchor Huw Edwards. Kuenssberg will make history as the first female election night anchor for the corporation, co-hosting with Myrie and assisted by political editor Chris Mason.
The duo will be joined by a team of BBC News presenters, including Reeta Chakrabarti, Jeremy Vine, Kirsty Wark, and Andrea Catherwood, among others. Professor Sir John Curtice will also provide insight throughout the night.
The BBC’s CEO of News, Deborah Turness, praised the “truly fantastic line-up of journalistic talent” and highlighted the team’s ability to bring voters the results and help make sense of them.
In addition to the election night coverage, the BBC has invited leaders of the seven biggest political parties to participate in televised debates. This marks a departure from previous elections, where only one anchor led the coverage.
The announcement comes after Huw Edwards left the BBC in April, following reports of misconduct. The network confirmed the new line-up ahead of the general election on 4 July, promising a fresh and dynamic team to guide viewers through the night and beyond.
