Italian luxury shipbuilder Azimut Yachts made waves at Milan Design Week with the unveiling of their latest offering, the Seadeck 6. Hosted at the historic Bagni Misteriosi bathing complex, the exhibition showcased the yacht’s unique design and sustainability features.
The nearly 60-foot vessel, designed by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, was lowered into an outdoor swimming pool for the event, creating a surreal and elegant scene reminiscent of a Fellini film. What set the Seadeck 6 apart from other luxury yachts was its focus on sustainability.
Azimut Yachts aimed to make the Seadeck 6 the most sustainable boat on the market, using fewer carbon-intensive materials and drawing energy from renewable sources. This move towards eco-friendly yachting is part of a broader trend in the industry, with manufacturers and designers prioritizing energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
Despite the challenges of creating a new market for eco-friendly yachts, companies like Azimut are forging ahead with their conscious design approach. The Seadeck 6 features sustainable materials like cork decking and organic upholstery, as well as a hybrid engine for reduced carbon emissions.
While the Seadeck 6 and its larger counterpart, the Seadeck 7, have made strides in reducing their carbon footprint, there is still room for improvement. The high price tags of these luxury yachts may be a barrier for some buyers, but Azimut hopes to attract enough interest to eventually lower costs.
At Milan Design Week, industry experts emphasized the importance of sustainability in shipbuilding and the convergence of design and eco-consciousness. As the demand for more environmentally friendly yachts grows, companies like Azimut are leading the way towards a more sustainable future on the high seas.
