The Bergling family is on a mission to ensure that the world remembers Tim, their son behind the Avicii moniker. Tim, known for his explosive rise to fame as a chart-topping DJ, tragically took his own life at the young age of 28 while on holiday in Oman on April 20, 2018.
In a candid and deeply personal video call, Klas Bergling, Tim’s father, expressed his ongoing grief over the loss of his son. He shared, “I miss him every minute. Of course, I talk to him every day. But, I admit, I get angry at him sometimes. Why did you do it? Why did you leave us?”
Avicii, with hits like “Levels” and “Wake Me Up,” became a superstar in the music industry, earning a reported $250,000 a night on tour. However, his success was accompanied by struggles with anxiety, addiction, and health issues.
Now, the Bergling family is releasing a picture book to honor Tim’s legacy and raise awareness about mental health issues among young people through the Tim Bergling Foundation, established in his memory in 2019. Klas curated the photos from Tim’s childhood to his superstar life, aiming to show the world the person behind the Avicii fame.
Reflecting on Tim’s impact on young people, Klas emphasized the authenticity and honesty that fans connected with in Tim’s music and lyrics. The family hopes to break the stigma surrounding mental health and continue Tim’s legacy through their foundation’s work.
Despite the tragedy of Tim’s death, the Bergling family remains dedicated to ensuring that Tim’s influence and message live on. The release of “Avicii: The life and music of Tim Bergling” on June 13 is just one way they are keeping his memory alive.
