Architects Leah Martin and Vikram Prakash decided to build a second home in a rural spot outside Seattle to create a space where they could truly decompress as a family. After visiting Orcas Island and falling in love with its beauty, they found the perfect six-acre lot in Eastsound with stunning views. Despite the steep terrain, they designed a unique 1,300-square-foot house that minimally disturbed the natural surroundings. The house features an open living area, a primary suite, and a bunk room for family and friends to gather. Completed last August, the home cost about $850 per square foot, much less than typical island construction costs. The couple is thrilled with the result, describing it as magical and divine. Their new home provides a sense of belonging and quietude, creating the perfect space for welcoming extended family and enjoying quality time together.
