The stars aligned on Thursday evening as celebrities and media moguls gathered at Little Island, the floating park in the Hudson River, for the opening night of the summer performance season. Despite earlier thunderstorms, the crowd of 700 attendees enjoyed a magical evening under the canopy of trees, savoring the world premiere of Twyla Tharp’s dance-and-musical hybrid piece, “How Long Blues.”
The event was a star-studded affair, with the likes of Candice Bergen, Andy Cohen, Annie Leibovitz, Fran Lebowitz, Natasha Lyonne, Bryan Lourd, and Jason Blum in attendance. Guests were treated to watermelon spears and boxed water as they made their way to the amphitheater for the performance.
As the sun set and the performance unfolded, the weather cooperated, providing a balmy evening for all to enjoy. The park, a passion project of media mogul Barry Diller and his wife Diane von Furstenberg, offers a unique experience with its shady trees, secret garden, and stunning views of the Hudson River.
The evening concluded with an after-party on the lawn, where guests mingled under colorful canopies and enjoyed wine and snacks. Despite a brief scare with the weather, the event was a success, with attendees praising the ambition and vision behind Little Island.
As the night came to a close, Ms. Lebowitz thanked Mr. Diller for a wonderful evening, while Mr. Cohen and Prince Alexander von Furstenberg reflected on the dedication and hard work that went into bringing Little Island to life. Overall, it was a night to remember, filled with music, dance, and the magic of New York City.
