Luxury Watch Collector Creates Unique Timepiece to Foster Cultural Connection
Yoni Ben-Yehuda, a watch collector with a passion for Cartier timepieces, recently embarked on a unique project to design a watch that would symbolize the bond created by a shared love of horology among people of different cultures.
Ben-Yehuda’s vision for the watch, unofficially named Timepeace, included an unconventional dial featuring numerals from alphabets such as Arabic, Hebrew, and Mandarin, as well as a runic five. The design aimed to represent the importance of finding common ground and fostering connections between individuals.
Despite initial doubts about the unorthodox design, Cartier embraced the concept and produced a limited edition of 25 Timepeace watches. The timepieces, priced at 25,700 British pounds each, were ordered through Cartier’s boutique in London and quickly gained attention from collectors, including celebrities like Julius Randle, Jimmy Fallon, and John Mayer.
The Timepeace project highlighted Cartier’s long tradition of custom orders, which are deeply rooted in the brand’s DNA. While not every request is accepted, the house values maintaining its design principles and ensuring that special orders align with its brand identity.
For Ben-Yehuda, receiving his Timepeace watch was a surreal moment, marking it as the most special timepiece in his collection. The project also sparked a new passion for design in the world of horology, offering a fresh perspective on the art of watchmaking.
As the Timepeace watches find their way onto the wrists of their owners, they serve as a tangible reminder of the power of shared interests and connections across cultures. In a world where differences often divide us, projects like Timepeace remind us of the importance of finding common ground and celebrating our shared passions.
