An Apartment in New York City Featuring a Kitchen Garden

Brock Forsblom and Jeremy Heimans have transformed their historic SoHo loft into a vibrant and eclectic living space that reflects their unique personalities and adventurous spirit. The couple, who purchased the apartment in early 2020, enlisted the help of architect Henry Ng to oversee the renovation, resulting in the launch of their own firm, Ideas of Order.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Forsblom and Heimans took their time to marinate in the beauty of their new home, drawing inspiration from places like the Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto and the work of architect Luis Barragán. The couple wanted to maintain the loft’s unconventional spirit while adding their own maximalist touch.

The kitchen, at the heart of the home, features elements of classic loft design alongside a small rock garden and a large square window that allows for a relaxing view from the soaking tub in the adjacent bathroom. The apartment also boasts a flexible dining room, office, and guest room that can be transformed with the pull of a curtain and a Murphy bed.

The main bedroom, covered in emerald green wool salvaged from Marc Jacobs’s fall 2019 collection, provides a decadent and moody retreat from the rest of the open living space. The living room, bathed in Barragán’s vivid pink, serves as a gathering space for the couple’s friends and features their growing art collection.

From ancient Roman mosaics to handmade ceramics and wooden masks from their travels, Forsblom and Heimans have curated a space that is a true reflection of their eclectic tastes and love for adventure. The apartment, once a vibrant artists’ enclave, now stands as a testament to the couple’s creativity and vision for a unique and welcoming home.
