Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Speaks Out About Upside-Down American Flag Outside His Home
In a recent interview with Fox News, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito addressed the controversy surrounding an upside-down American flag that was seen flying outside his home in the days following the Jan. 6 Capitol protests. Alito revealed that his wife, Martha-Ann, displayed the flag in response to insults directed at her from a neighbor.
The saga began when a neighbor down the street from the Alitos put up a sign that read “F— Trump” near a children’s bus stop. Martha-Ann spoke with the neighbors about the sign, but the conversation did not go well. The neighbors then put up a sign directly attacking Martha-Ann and blaming her for the events of Jan. 6.
During a walk in the neighborhood, one person from the property with the sign got into an argument with Martha-Ann, using derogatory language, including the C-word. Distraught by the incident, Martha-Ann decided to make a statement by hanging the American flag upside down outside their home.
Alito clarified that he had no role in the decision to display the flag and that it was only up for a short time. He emphasized that he did not have the right or ability to control his wife’s actions and noted that some neighbors on his street have been very political.
The story surrounding the flag outside Alito’s home comes as the Supreme Court is deciding on former President Trump’s immunity case. Alito’s interview sheds light on the personal impact of political tensions in his neighborhood.
