Alfonso Ribeiro, best known for his role as Carlton Banks on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” recently opened up about how the iconic role was a “sacrifice” for his acting career. In an interview with Closer Weekly, Ribeiro shared that while playing Carlton was one of the greatest roles he ever had, it also hindered his ability to pursue other acting opportunities.
Despite the challenges he faced, Ribeiro fondly recalled his time on the show, especially the moments spent with the cast before tapings. He shared that the energy buildup in Will Smith’s dressing room before each show was a highlight for him.
While Ribeiro has not taken on major acting roles in recent years, he expressed his enjoyment of hosting shows like “Dancing with the Stars” and “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” He mentioned that winning “Dancing with the Stars” and becoming a host on the show were some of his happiest career moments.
Reflecting on his early career, Ribeiro mentioned his experience working with Michael Jackson in a Pepsi commercial and how it taught him the importance of perfection in every detail of a performance.
Now a father of four, Ribeiro shared that at least one of his children is interested in pursuing a career in show business. He expressed his support for his children in whatever path they choose to follow.
Despite the challenges he faced after “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Ribeiro remains grateful for the opportunities the show provided him and continues to find joy in his current hosting roles.
