The war over the Minnesota Timberwolves ownership is heating up as owner Glen Taylor announced that the team is no longer for sale after Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore failed to meet certain deadlines agreed upon in the original sale conditions. Despite Taylor’s statement, Rodriguez and Lore are adamant that they will be the owners of the team, accusing Taylor of having “seller’s remorse.”
The $1.5 billion deal, which included the WNBA franchise, was agreed upon nearly three years ago and was structured to incrementally change over leadership from Taylor to the investment group. However, reports indicate that the relationship between both parties has been strained for some time, with disagreements over various issues, including an owners’ suite built by Rodriguez and Lore.
Rodriguez defended their position, stating that they have fulfilled all obligations and have the necessary funding to close the deal. The accusations of “seller’s remorse” come at a time when NBA franchise values are on the rise, with several teams selling at valuations of over $3 billion.
Despite the off-court drama, the Timberwolves have been enjoying success on the court, reaching the 50-win mark for just the fifth time in franchise history and currently tied for second place in the Western Conference. The situation remains unresolved as both parties stand their ground in the battle for ownership of the team.
