The younger generation, known as Gen Z, is making a shift towards blue-collar jobs in light of the advancements in artificial intelligence technology. With the rising costs of college education and the threat AI poses to traditional white-collar jobs, many Gen Zers are opting for trade schools and blue-collar professions that are less likely to be automated by AI.
Tech CEO’s are recognizing this trend, with one stating that Gen Z is “catching the wave” of blue-collar jobs that AI can’t take. This shift is evident in the recent surge in Amazon sales, as the company focuses on artificial intelligence to drive growth in its cloud-computing unit. Amazon reported record first-quarter sales, bouncing back from last year’s post-pandemic slump.
However, policymakers are being warned not to base regulations on fictional scenarios related to AI. It is crucial to understand the real-world implications of AI technology and not rely on science fiction for inspiration. Google is also stepping up to make AI training more accessible, rolling out a new course and dedicating $75 million for 1 million Americans to take it for free.
