Magic Monkey Films has finally released its Scottish horror film, “The Bench,” after 17 years of filming. The movie follows a group of friends who take a trip to a remote cabin in Renfrewshire, only to disappear one by one in a grisly slasher.
Despite facing numerous challenges during production, including bad weather and running out of money halfway through filming, writer and director Sean Wilkie is now “pleased, nervous, and relieved” that the film is finally out for the public to see.
Inspired by classic horror films like Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wilkie embarked on the project in 2007, filming in locations such as Lochwinnoch and Drumpellier Country Park.
The film features a talented cast, including Joy McAvoy from Two Doors Down and Matt McClure from Penny Dreadful. Wilkie took on multiple roles during production, including editing and organizing reshoots to address continuity issues.
After years of post-production work and financial struggles, “The Bench” is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime. The film’s revival was made possible by director Ryan Hendrick, who saw potential in the project and helped bring it to audiences.
Despite the challenges faced during the making of “The Bench,” Wilkie is now inspired to get back behind the camera and has already started developing new ideas for future projects. The film’s unique production history has given it a special charm, making it almost like a “period piece” for horror fans to enjoy.
