Comedian and podcast host Adam Carolla has announced his decision to leave California once his kids graduate from high school, citing the state’s ongoing issues and the leadership of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom. In a recent appearance on “The Sage Steele Show,” Carolla expressed his frustration with the state of California, calling it “horrible” and insisting that it’s time to move.
Carolla, who grew up in Los Angeles, lamented the recent downturn in the city and state, noting that leaving California was once unthinkable for many residents. However, he now feels compelled to make a change and is considering Texas, Florida, the Carolinas, and Tennessee as potential new homes.
The comedian criticized California’s problems as “self-imposed” and “super avoidable,” questioning why the state hasn’t taken steps to reverse course. He highlighted the 2021 recall effort against Newsom and the subsequent re-election of the governor, as well as the election of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, suggesting that voters are not willing to admit their mistakes.
Carolla did not hold back in his criticism of Newsom, calling him a “narcissistic douchebag” and a “slippery eel of nothingness.” He recounted a past interview with Newsom where he challenged the governor on issues like traffic and homelessness, accusing him of being out of touch with reality.
The comedian’s decision to leave California reflects a growing trend of residents seeking greener pastures in other states. As Carolla prepares to make his exit, he leaves behind a state that he believes is in desperate need of change and course correction.
