On Wednesday, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg stated that India will play a significant role in the development of the metaverse, a concept still in development. At the second edition of Fuel for India 2021, Zuckerberg spoke with Vishal Shah, Vice President of Meta.
The metaverse, according to Zuckerberg, will be “an internet where you feel like you’re there and present with people and in other locations.”
Metaverse is a system that combines numerous elements of technology, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and video, to allow users to “live” within a digital world, and gaming will be a big part of it.
According to Zuckerberg, India’s online gaming industry has grown significantly in recent years, and Meta’s investment in gaming will continue to rise as the company realises Metaverse’s full potential.
Through investments in Unacademy and Meesho, Meta is also investing in other rapidly growing areas such as education and commerce. “We want to continue to partner in all of these areas as we accelerate the development of the fundamental technologies, social platforms, and creative tools that are going to be necessary to bring the metaverse to life,” Zuckerberg said.
According to the Meta CEO, the Metaverse will not be produced by a single company or even a small number of companies, but by enabling millions of artists all over the world, “We’re thinking about what the next generation is going to look like in terms of where these creators and developers are going to come from and who is going to build the foundation of the metaverse. I think it’s obvious India is going to be a huge part of that. ”
Different portions of the Fuel for India 2021 event showcased how people, businesses, and communities are collaborating on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to drive change, liberate expression, create equality, and explore future possibilities.
Smriti Irani and Rajeev Chandrasekhar, both Union Ministers, spoke on the occasion, as did Akash Ambani, Director and Head of Strategy for Reliance Jio Platforms Ltd.
Meta just opened a new office in Gurugram, which is the company’s first standalone presence in Asia.
India is going to play a huge part in building metaverse, Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg says.
