Two Delta Air Lines workers tragically lost their lives and another was seriously injured in an accident at an airline maintenance facility in Atlanta. The incident occurred while the workers were servicing a Delta plane at the airline’s wheel and brake shop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The two workers who lost their lives were identified as Mirko Marweg, 58, and Luis Aldarondo, 37, while the name of the injured worker has not been released. The cause of the accident is still unclear, and both local authorities and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the incident.
In a statement, Delta Air Lines expressed their sorrow over the loss of their team members and the injury of another. The airline is working closely with authorities to determine what happened.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, a union representing many airline industry workers, has called for a thorough investigation into the deaths. Delta’s workforce is largely not part of the union.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens offered his condolences to the families of the deceased workers and wished a speedy recovery to the injured worker. The incident has not affected air traffic at the airport, which is the world’s busiest in terms of passenger numbers.
Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the injured worker during this difficult time.
