Renowned designer and record producer Nigo has recently unveiled his latest masterpiece – a stunning beach house by the sea in Japan. Known for his work with streetwear brands like A Bathing Ape and Human Made, as well as his role as artistic director of Kenzo, Nigo’s foray into architecture has captured the attention of many.
The 1,735-square-foot home, located in a secluded town a few hours south of Tokyo, offers a unique perspective on beachfront living. Designed by Takashi Yanai of Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects, the house seamlessly blends California Modernism with classical Japanese design, creating a space that feels both minimalist and inviting.
With a focus on the natural beauty of the surrounding environment, the house features a bespoke glass panel that opens up to a waterfront deck, allowing the sea to become an integral part of the property. Inside, reflective surfaces and clean lines create a sense of harmony with the ocean views, while vintage furniture and modern accents add a touch of sophistication.
Nigo’s attention to detail is evident throughout the house, from the carefully curated furniture to the meticulously recreated concrete walls. Despite the challenges faced during the construction process, the end result is a testament to Nigo’s vision and dedication to creating a space that is not only beautiful but also functional.
For Nigo, the beach house serves as a retreat from his busy life, a place where he can relax and recharge. While the house may not have many overnight guests yet, it has already become a sanctuary for the designer and his wife, actress Riho Makise. As Nigo himself puts it, the house is “good for the soul,” a sentiment that is sure to resonate with anyone who has the pleasure of visiting this architectural gem.
