Rebel Wilson: From Malaria Hallucinations to Hollywood Success

Rebel Wilson, the Australian actress known for her comedic roles in movies like Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect, has had quite the journey to stardom. Born on 2 March 1980 in Australia, Wilson grew up in Sydney where her parents were professional dog handlers. Her first taste of the spotlight came as an extra on the long-running TV show Burke’s Backyard.

But Wilson’s path to fame was not easy. After contracting malaria in Africa at age 19, she had hallucinations about winning an Oscar, which inspired her to pursue a career in acting. Despite facing rejection from Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art, Wilson persevered and eventually landed roles in Hollywood blockbusters like Bridesmaids.

Known for playing the ‘fat funny character’ in movies like Pitch Perfect, Wilson decided to embark on a journey to ‘get healthier’ in 2020. Despite facing pushback from those around her, Wilson lost 80lb and shared her physical transformation online, opening up about her struggles with binge eating.

In 2022, Wilson welcomed her daughter Royce via a surrogate after being diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. She is also engaged to girlfriend Ramona Agruma, whom she proposed to at Disneyland in 2023.

Wilson’s new book, Rebel Rising, has stirred up controversy with allegations about British actor Sacha Baron Cohen. Despite the setbacks, Wilson continues to shine in Hollywood and inspire fans with her resilience and authenticity.
