A Florida woman and her ex-boyfriend were arrested after allegedly robbing a senior citizen under the guise of a romantic date, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s office.
Chelsea Wright, 34, and Andrew Marks, 33, were involved in a violent robbery scheme of a 73-year-old man whose injuries required treatment at an area hospital. The elderly victim arrived at a local hospital and shared details of the incident with hospital staff.
The victim had met Wright at a Daytona Beach bar for a romantic date to discuss their relationship. Wright suggested they go back to her house, and the victim followed her to her home in Ormond Beach. Along the way, Wright picked up Marks and dropped him off near a home.
When the victim got out of his car at Wright’s house, Marks allegedly hit him in the head with a metal object, causing him to fall to the ground. Marks then stole the man’s wallet and fled the scene with Wright.
The victim suffered numerous injuries, including lacerations to his head requiring staples and a swollen eye. Police conducted surveillance on Wright, pulled her over for a traffic infraction, and found narcotics in her car.
Wright initially lied to detectives, claiming the attacker was an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s whom she had picked up on the side of the road. However, text messages between Marks and Wright revealed they had planned the robbery together.
Marks was located and arrested on charges of robbery with a weapon and aggravated battery on a victim over the age of 65. Wright was arrested as a principal on the same charges.
The incident serves as a reminder to be cautious when meeting strangers for dates and to always prioritize personal safety.
