World Central Kitchen, a disaster relief organization, is mourning the loss of seven of its workers who were killed in the Gaza Strip in an Israeli strike on their convoy. Among the victims were individuals from Australia, Britain, Gaza, Poland, and a dual citizen of the United States and Canada.
Australia’s foreign minister, Penny Wong, identified the Australian victim as Lalzawmi Frankcom, also known as Zomi. She was praised for her dedication to serving others, including her fellow Australians during natural disasters. World Central Kitchen had recently shared a video of Ms. Frankcom working in their kitchen in Gaza, highlighting her commitment to helping those in need.
In Britain, foreign secretary David Cameron confirmed that British nationals were among those killed in the incident, but did not provide further details.
A Palestinian driver and translator for World Central Kitchen was also tragically killed in the attack in Gaza. Photos of his funeral in Rafah were shared by news agencies.
Damian Sobol, an aid worker from Poland, was another victim of the strike. The mayor of Przemysl, where Sobol was from, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the “fantastic boy.”
The identity of the dual citizen from the United States and Canada has not yet been revealed. The international community is mourning the loss of these dedicated individuals who were working to provide aid and support to those in need.
