Chair lifts at an Italian ski resort in the Swiss Alps were caught on video twisting and turning after being hit by sudden gusts of wind while skiers were still on board. The incident, which occurred at the Cervino Ski Paradise in Breuil-Cervinia, was captured by onlookers and shared on social media.
The video shows the chairs on the lift swaying dangerously as the wind gusts reached up to 70 miles per hour. Skiers on the lift, including experienced skier Barnaby Dunning, described feeling like they were in a “washing machine” and experiencing moments of panic and fear.
Despite the terrifying ordeal, all skiers on the lift reached their destination safely after the lift was closed due to poor weather conditions. The resort confirmed that 10 chairs on the lift were damaged and taken out of service, but no injuries were reported.
The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather in the mountains and the importance of safety precautions while skiing. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
