Larry David suggests removing goalposts from new United Football League
After merging the XFL and USFL, the new United Football League (UFL) is gearing up for its inaugural season. However, one famous comedian has a unique suggestion for the league – remove the goalposts.
Larry David, known for his work on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Seinfeld,” recently appeared on the “Rich Eisen Show” where he revealed that he had contacted UFL co-owner Dwayne Johnson to propose the idea of eliminating goalposts from the playing fields.
“I heard about this UFL and I thought ‘Let me talk to somebody in the UFL,'” Larry said. “So, my agent got me on the phone with Dwayne Johnson. He called me, and we had a conversation. He didn’t know what I was asking, but he was nice enough to call back.”
The Rock, as Johnson is also known, jokingly addressed the situation by stating that he and David had a “spirited and very productive conversation” about the comedian’s dislike for goalposts and field goal kicks.
David also expressed surprise at the XFL’s extra-point rules, which will carry over to the UFL. In the XFL, teams cannot kick extra points after scoring a touchdown. Instead, they must run a play that could add one, two, or three points to their score.
Despite his initial lack of awareness about the rules, David stands by his suggestion to remove goalposts if he were named NFL commissioner for a day.
The UFL’s inaugural season will kick off with the Arlington Renegades hosting the Birmingham Stallions, and the St. Louis Battlehawks facing off against the Michigan Panthers on March 30.
