Love can sometimes take a winding path, as evidenced by the journey of Colton Dakota Elliott and Allie Londyn Hill. What started with a rejected middle school crush eventually blossomed into a cross-country road trip and a surprise engagement in the mountains of Colorado.
After years of friendly social media interactions and occasional messages, the pair reconnected during the pandemic when Bernie Sanders dropped out of the presidential race. Their conversations quickly turned personal, leading to FaceTime calls and eventually a plan for Mr. Elliott to move to San Diego with Ms. Hill’s help.
Their 12-day camping adventure from Memphis to California was filled with challenges, but it also solidified their feelings for each other. By the time they reached San Francisco, they were officially a couple.
Since then, they have moved in together in Memphis, adopted two cats, and are planning a wedding before Ms. Hill graduates from dental school in 2024. Mr. Elliott’s surprise proposal in Estes Park, complete with a photographer and friends flying in to celebrate, marked the next chapter in their love story.
Their self-uniting ceremony in Breckenridge, Colorado, with only close family in attendance, symbolized their unique and personal journey to love. As they look forward to their future together in Oahu, Hawaii, Colton and Allie serve as a reminder that sometimes, the best love stories are the ones that take time to unfold.
