Lil Nas X Takes on NYC Half Marathon in Coach High-Top Sneakers
In a surprising turn of events, rapper and singer Lil Nas X made a last-minute decision to participate in the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon this past weekend. The New York Road Runners received an unusual email request from one of his representatives, inquiring if there was room for one more runner in the 13.1-mile race.
Despite his lack of experience in long-distance running, the nonprofit organization was more than happy to accommodate the Grammy-winning artist. Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Hill, showed up for the race in a pair of Coach high-top sneakers, ready to take on the challenge.
Accompanied by Roberto Mandje, a senior adviser for New York Road Runners, Lil Nas X joined over 27,000 other participants in completing the race in 2 hours 32 minutes 53 seconds. Throughout the course, fans and fellow runners alike were surprised to see the chart-topping artist among them, with many shouting out in excitement as he passed by.
Despite facing some challenges due to his unconventional choice of footwear, Lil Nas X persevered and crossed the finish line with a smile on his face. He even took the time to snap some selfies with race officials and fans, celebrating his accomplishment in style.
While this may have been Lil Nas X’s first road race, it seems that the experience has left a lasting impression on him. Only time will tell if he decides to lace up his running shoes again for future races, but one thing is for sure – his unexpected participation in the NYC Half Marathon has certainly made headlines and inspired fans around the world.
