The BBC has announced a review into its workplace culture following accusations against former senior news presenter Huw Edwards. Edwards, who recently received a suspended prison sentence for offences involving child abuse images, was also accused of sending inappropriate messages to colleagues.

The review aims to prevent abuse of power and ensure that everyone at the BBC conducts themselves in line with the organization’s values. BBC chair Samir Shah emphasized the commitment to tackling inappropriate behavior and creating a safe and welcoming workplace for all employees.

Previous reviews have highlighted a culture of fear and power imbalances at the BBC, with some individuals being seen as ‘untouchable’ due to their perceived value to the organization. The upcoming review will assess progress made on previous recommendations and propose practical steps to prevent abuse of power and strengthen the workplace culture.

The review will be conducted by Grahame Russell of Change Associates and is expected to be completed next year. It will focus on ensuring that consequences of inappropriate behavior are understood by all, and that employees feel confident to speak up and managers act decisively. The BBC is determined to address these issues and create a positive and inclusive work environment for everyone.
