Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has made shocking allegations in his new memoir, claiming that he was abused for years by the band’s former manager, Greig Nori. The Canadian rock band, known for hits like “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep”, has been rocked by these accusations, with Nori denying the claims as “false”.
In his memoir, titled Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hell, Whibley details the alleged grooming and sexual abuse he endured at the hands of Nori, who was the band’s first manager. The abuse reportedly began when Whibley was a teenager and continued for several years.
Whibley, now 44, revealed that he kept the dark side of his relationship with Nori a secret from his bandmates for years. The singer described feeling pressured and coerced into a physical relationship with Nori, which eventually turned into verbal and psychological abuse after it ended.
The memoir also sheds light on the early days of Sum 41, documenting their rise to international stardom and the role Nori played in their success. Whibley alleges that Nori, who was in his 30s at the time, mentored him and later became the band’s manager.
Despite Nori’s denial of the allegations, Whibley’s ex-wife, Avril Lavigne, reportedly recognized the relationship as abuse when he confided in her. The couple, who were married from 2006 to 2009, supported each other through the difficult revelation.
Sum 41, who have sold over 15 million albums worldwide, are currently on their farewell world tour and will be disbanding after 28 years together.
