The highly anticipated film about the life of ‘Iceman’ Wim Hof has been put on hold following shocking allegations made by his former partner in a Dutch newspaper. Actor Joseph Fiennes was set to star in the biopic as the famous extreme athlete known for advocating cold exposure.

The development of the film, which had not yet started shooting, has been paused after his ex-partner Caroline claimed Hof physically, sexually, and verbally abused her during their 10-year relationship. Hof vehemently denies these allegations and has stated that he is taking legal action against the Dutch newspaper, de Volkskrant, which first reported them.

A spokesperson for Genesius Pictures confirmed that due to the severity of the allegations, the production is on hold. Caroline and Hof’s son Noah, along with her two children from a previous relationship, have also alleged verbal abuse. One of his step-sons, Christiaan, has accused Hof of physically harming him.

In response to the allegations, Hof denied ever being violent and claimed that Caroline is “on the warpath” and distorting the truth. He also refuted the sexual assault allegations as “all lies.” De Volkskrant stated that their story was supported by various documents, including court, medical, and child welfare reports.

Hof’s eldest son Enahm, from his first marriage, released a statement saying that he and his siblings do not recognize the negative portrayal of their father in the media. They believe the stories focus on a difficult period in Hof’s life and are working to share a more comprehensive perspective.

Hof’s son also mentioned that his father has filed a defamation complaint and plans to take legal action against the newspaper. Despite the controversy, Hof remains known for his extreme athletic feats and claims that his breathing techniques and exposure to cold can improve health.

In 2022, a BBC One series called Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof showcased the Dutchman training celebrities to face challenges in sub-zero temperatures, further highlighting his unique approach to health and wellness.
