Professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev will not face domestic violence charges after being arrested in California, US authorities have confirmed.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star, known for his appearances on both the UK and US versions of the popular dance competition shows, was booked into Napa County Jail in July. The 42-year-old Russian professional dancer rose to fame after winning series eight of Strictly in 2010 with celebrity partner Kara Tointon, whom he dated for several years after the show.

Napa County District Attorney, Allison Haley, stated that after a thorough review of the criminal investigation and careful evaluation of the evidence, charges will not be brought against Chigvintsev. Haley emphasized the ethical obligation to only file charges when supported by evidence and the need to prove criminal charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

The district attorney’s office may revisit the case if new evidence or incidents come to light. Chigvintsev was arrested under section 273.5(a) of the California penal code, which covers traumatic injury to a current or former spouse, cohabitant, or fellow parent in an act of domestic violence. The offence can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony, with the latter carrying a sentence of up to four years in jail.

Chigvintsev posted a $25,000 bond and was reportedly released later on Thursday afternoon. It remains unclear if his wife is involved in any way. Since 2014, Chigvintsev has been a regular on Dancing With The Stars, where he was partnered with WWE star Nikki Bella in 2017. The couple now has a son, born in 2020, and have appeared on the reality show Total Bellas for five years.

The news of Chigvintsev’s arrest and subsequent release has sparked interest and speculation among fans and followers of the dancer’s career.
