Elon Musk’s X now operating in Brazil despite ban being circumvented

In a surprising turn of events, some X users in Brazil have reported being able to access the social media platform once again, following a ban imposed on the platform at the end of August. The platform, formerly known as Twitter, was banned in the country after failing to meet a court deadline, sparking a feud between Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes and tech billionaire Elon Musk, who owns the platform.

According to the BBC, the change in accessibility was made possible after the company moved their service to servers hosted by Cloudflare, a move that has made it much harder to block applications on phones, according to ABRINT, Brazil’s leading trade group for Internet Service Providers (ISP). The trade group explained that the new system uses dynamic IPs that change constantly, making it nearly impossible to block the platform without affecting other legitimate services.

The news release from ABRINT detailed how Musk was able to outfox the ban, stating that the X app was updated overnight to start using IP addresses linked through Cloudflare. This move has allowed users to once again access the platform, despite the ban imposed by the Brazilian government.

It remains to be seen how Brazil will respond to the platform finding a way around the ban, especially considering that the country is said to be one of the largest markets for Musk’s social media network. X, Cloudflare, and Brazil’s telecom agency Anatel have not yet responded to requests for comment on the situation.
