Jay Blades, the popular host of BBC’s Repair Shop, had a recent court appearance at Cannock Magistrates’ Court in Walsall, where a driving charge against him was dismissed. The 54-year-old had been accused of using his mobile phone while driving in Staffordshire, but the case was thrown out after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.
However, Mr. Blades is still facing a charge of controlling and coercive behavior against his estranged wife, Lisa Zbozen. This accusation came to light after Ms. Zbozen posted on Instagram about the end of their 18-month marriage, prompting an investigation by West Mercia Police. Mr. Blades appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court and was bailed, with a court date set for October 11 at Worcester Crown Court.
Despite the legal challenges, Jay Blades has been a well-known figure on television since the launch of The Repair Shop in 2017. The show, which won a National Television Award and a Bafta, features members of the public bringing in cherished items to be restored. In response to the ongoing legal proceedings, the BBC has dropped a repeat episode of David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed, in which Mr. Blades appears with actor David Jason. Additionally, Mr. Blades has resigned as chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University. The institution confirmed his immediate resignation following the court appearance.
