The beloved children’s TV show Balamory is making a comeback, much to the delight of fans young and old. The BBC has announced that two new series of the show are set to be commissioned for a reboot on CBeebies in 2026, with some of the original characters expected to make a return.
Originally set in the colourful harbour town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, Balamory captured the hearts of viewers with its catchy theme tune and lovable characters. The show, which aired from 2002 to 2005, attracted millions of viewers both in the UK and around the world.
Julie Wilson Nimmo, who played nursery teacher Miss Hoolie in the original series, expressed her excitement about the news, calling it “the craziest and best news ever.” She even went as far as to say that the return of Balamory is bigger than the Oasis reunion.
The new episodes of Balamory will be filmed in Scotland, either in Tobermory or another Scottish location such as Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. The exact details of the revamped shows have yet to be developed, but the BBC is calling for ideas from producers for two series of ten 14-minute programmes.
Fans of the show can look forward to reuniting with familiar characters like PC Plum, Archie the inventor, and Miss Hoolie, as well as meeting new faces in the brightly coloured world of Balamory. The announcement of the show’s return has been met with excitement from the cast, with Andrew Agnew, who played PC Plum, saying he would be thrilled to be involved in the reboot.
