Creator of Peaky Blinders to establish Birmingham-themed studio in Los Angeles

The highly anticipated Peaky Blinders film is set to be shot at Digbeth Loc studios and various locations across the West Midlands, as creator Steven Knight announces plans to open a studio in Los Angeles to showcase the work of Midlands filmmakers.

Knight expressed his ambition for big productions, stating, “We believe that we have to be very ambitious and I think that we’re going to make it.” The film will follow the infamous Shelby family into World War Two, with Barry Keoghan joining the cast.

In addition to the film production, Knight has launched a four-week training scheme for aspiring filmmakers in Birmingham, with thirteen trainees graduating from the Kudos Knight Scripted Production Training initiative. Graduates like Tannaz Razpoush expressed their newfound confidence and readiness to pursue a career in the industry.

Nigel Chapwania, who participated in Knight’s drama This Town, highlighted the abundance of talent in the area and the importance of providing opportunities for aspiring filmmakers. Knight emphasized the need for diversity within the film industry, stating, “We need Birmingham and West Midlands people to understand that this is a real industry that is here to stay and you can make a fabulous career.”

With production underway for the Peaky Blinders film and plans for a studio in Los Angeles, the future looks bright for Midlands filmmakers and the legacy of the iconic series.
