Excitement is building in Barry Island as filming for the highly anticipated Gavin and Stacey finale is set to begin. Fans of the hit BBC comedy, which last aired in 2019, have been eagerly awaiting news of its return for one last Christmas special in December.
Co-writers James Corden and Ruth Jones recently confirmed the comeback, with Corden sharing a sneak peek on Instagram of his character Smithy’s car with the caption “Day 1. Here we go.” Advertised road closures in Barry suggest that filming will be taking place in the area over the coming week.
Jones, who plays Nessa on the show, was spotted having lunch at Marco’s cafe on the seafront, a familiar location for fans of the show. She even took the time to chat with a group of volunteers from the 11th Barry Sea Scout Group, who were thrilled to meet her and discuss their shared love of scouting.
Welsh actor Rob Brydon, who portrays Uncle Bryn, also got in on the excitement by posting a selfie with Ruth Jones on Instagram, teasing fans with the caption “Something’s occurring…”
Gavin and Stacey, which follows the lives of two families split between Essex and Wales, has been a beloved series since it first aired in 2007. The show has won multiple awards, including two Bafta TV awards and a National Television Award.
