The second night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago took a chaotic turn as anti-Israel protesters clashed with police officers outside the Israeli consulate. Demonstrators were seen shouting expletives at the officers, telling them to quit their jobs, and even burning an American flag.

The tense situation escalated as police warned the protesters to disperse or face arrest. Several individuals were taken into custody, with police seen confiscating a megaphone and placing zip ties on at least five people.

The protesters, many of whom were holding Palestinian flags and wearing face coverings, continued to chant “Free Palestine” as the police presence remained strong throughout the night.

Meanwhile, inside the United Center, the celebratory roll call for Vice President Kamala Harris to be declared the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee was underway, highlighting the stark contrast between the political proceedings and the unrest happening just miles away.

Supporters of Israel, including relatives of individuals kidnapped by Hamas, gathered earlier in the day at a pro-Israel art installation to advocate for continued U.S. support for Israel and the release of hostages.

The demonstrations outside the Israeli consulate underscored the deep divisions and passionate emotions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, adding a layer of intensity to the already charged atmosphere of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
