The percentage of U.S. adults identifying as LGBTQ+ has reached a new high of 7.6%, according to the latest Gallup poll. This represents a significant increase from previous years, with the percentage more than doubling since 2012.
Gallup predicts that if current trends continue, the U.S. LGBTQ+ population could reach 10% within the next three decades. The younger generations are leading the way, with more than 1 in 5 Gen Z adults and 1 in 10 millennials identifying as LGBTQ+.
Bisexual adults make up the largest proportion of the LGBTQ+ population, with 4.4% of U.S. adults and 57.3% of LGBTQ+ adults identifying as bisexual. Gay and lesbian identities are also common, each representing slightly over 1% of U.S. adults.
Overall, the LGBTQ+ community is growing and becoming more visible in society. This trend is expected to continue as acceptance and understanding of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities increase.
