Former President Trump Endorses Second GOP Candidate in Effort to Oust Rep. Dan Newhouse

Former President Trump has thrown his support behind a second GOP candidate in the primary for Washington’s 4th Congressional district as part of an effort to oust Rep. Dan Newhouse. Newhouse is one of ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump in 2021 following the January 6 Capitol protests.

In a post on Truth Social ahead of Tuesday’s vote, Trump endorsed Tiffany Smiley, calling her a “tremendous America First Candidate” who is running to represent the people of Washington’s 4th Congressional District. Trump also reiterated his support for Jerrod Sessler, whom he had endorsed in the past.

Trump criticized Newhouse as a “weak and pathetic RINO” who “stupidly voted to impeach me for absolutely no reason.” He urged Republicans to unite behind a “WINNER” to ensure victory in November, giving his “Complete and Total Endorsement” to both Smiley and Sessler.

Smiley, a Triage Nurse, Veterans Advocate, Army Wife, and Loving Mother, was described by Trump as an “INCREDIBLE Fighter” who will work to address issues such as inflation, the economy, border security, military/veterans, and the Second Amendment.

Newhouse, who is seeking his sixth term in office, has faced backlash for his impeachment vote but has also received support from constituents who appreciate his work on other issues facing the nation.

Smiley, who previously ran for U.S. Senate in 2022, has pledged to focus on preserving dams in the lower Snake River, combating illegal drugs, and supporting agriculture if elected.

Trump’s endorsement of Smiley and Sessler comes as the party in the district remains divided, with Smiley emphasizing the need for true representation that reflects the values of the community.

The race for Washington’s 4th Congressional district is heating up as candidates vie for the support of voters ahead of the primary. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
