The New York Yankees made a big move before the MLB trade deadline, acquiring All-Star outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins. The Marlins received three Yankees prospects in return for Chisholm, including catcher Agustin Ramirez.
The Yankees, despite their 60-45 record this season, have been struggling at the plate. Players like DJ LeMahieu and Alex Verdugo have not been performing up to expectations. Chisholm, a versatile 26-year-old lefty bat, could provide a much-needed boost to the lineup. He is currently slashing .249/.323/.407 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs in 101 games for the Marlins this season.
Chisholm also brings speed on the base paths, an area where the Yankees have been lacking this season. He has swiped 22 bags, tied for 12th in MLB, while the Yankees as a team have only 43 stolen bases on the year.
It remains to be seen how the Yankees will deploy Chisholm in the field, as he has primarily played center field for the Marlins but has experience at second base and shortstop. With the Yankees’ outfield struggling, Chisholm could provide a much-needed spark.
